A Sad Accordion Story

I think this may be the worst thing I’ve ever read about the accordion. One of the last survivors of the Nazi Auschwitz death camp, Esther Bejarano, died this month at age 96. As a young Jewish girl, she survived by playing the accordion in the Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz. Among other things, one of the orchestra’s duties was to play “welcome” songs for the Jews arriving from all over Europe, people who would soon be sent to the gas chambers. She played with tears in her eyes.

Please take a moment to honor her memory by reading more about this brave woman who, in later years, fought racism through music
